Juicing can be exceptionally useful to your health when it’s done in right way. However, when done in a wrong manner, the outcomes can have the inverse impact from what you desire to accomplish. The solution is not just to buy a best juicer machine but to avoid some common juicing mistakes too. Rather than getting in shape, you can put on weight, and at times it can have an adverse effect on your health too. There are numerous entanglements to evade while juicing. One of the possible issue is swallowing down the juice in three seconds. In such a case, wrenching down juice rapidly will cause gastrointestinal misery. So if you are new to juice making, read this article carefully with the objective to enhance the benefit of every ounce of juice you drink minimizing the wastage.
Some of the common mistakes made while juicing are:
1. Utilizing Same Ingredients Again and Again Each and Every Day
Many individuals are unfamiliar with the fact that you may get a considerable measure of nourishment e.g. cell reinforcements, vitamins and minerals, but you’ll additionally process poisons that can be deadly when consumed in expansive dosages.
- Oxalates found in fruits like bananas, grapes, mangoes and cherries. They can cause or worsen kidney stones.
- Atropine found in tomatoes can cause dizziness and headaches
- Cyanide found in apples, plums, cherries can have very bad effects if taken in large quantities.
- Goitrogens that are found in cruciferous vegetables, for example, cabbage, broccoli, kale, mustard seeds and cabbage can hamper the capacity of the thyroid organ especially when eaten (or for our situation chugged) crude in expansive dosages.
The list goes on and on. The point here is to highlight the importance of using variety of fruits and vegetables during different days of the week. Due to this practice, not only you will get the necessary vitamins and antioxidants but you will also avoid gulping the same toxins over and over again which can be harmful.
2. Swallowing Juices in Haste
OK! Let’s take a moment here. You spend a good amount of money on a high-quality juicer, bought a top notch natural fruit or veggie, spent possibly 5 to 10 minutes separating the juice from these fruits and an additional five minutes on cleaning the juicer. Now, why might you drink your juice in three seconds? Give yourself some opportunity to appreciate the juice! Drink it slowly and appreciate it’s taste. Infact, Chew it! Why? Because digestion starts in mouth rather than in stomach as we might think. By blending saliva with juice, you’ll really assimilate a bigger number of nutrition into your body than by simply swallowing it down.
3. Preferring Fruits Over Vegetables for Juicing
We all know that fruits are very beneficial for our health. Some of the common fruits that are used to make juice are apples, bananas and cherries. The best apples for juicing are Fuji, Gala, Honey Crisp, McIntosh, Pink Lady, Red Delicious, Rome, etc. These apples are best for juicing if used as a fresh juice and not the canned ones.
Bear in mind that the mixture of fruits can contain the same amount of sugar as 335 ml can of coke do. So if you are a diabetic patient, consuming juice on daily basis can have a very bad effect on your health. Specialists say that it’d be ideal to utilize a blend of fruits and veggies since it will hold off the sugar assimilation in the circulation system. The role of a fruit in a blend should act as a sweetener and not as the main ingredient. Include around 1 or 2 types of fruit that go along with greens and other vegetables. The best veggies for juicing are spinach, kale, celery etc. Various recipes are used in order to extract juice from different vegetables. For the purpose of health benefits various recipes for spinach juice are available.
- Creates red blood cells
- Prevents bleeding gums
- Very rich in antioxidants
- Rich in vitamin A which treats vision problems
Other best green juice recipes are:
Cucumber Basil Juice:
Blend of:
- 1 c fresh basil leaves
- 1 lg cucumber
- 1 lime, peeled
- 1 green apple
- 1 lg cucumber
- 1 med pear
- ¼ c fresh mint
- 1 c fresh parsley
- 1 lemon, peeled
- 2 c baby spinach
4. Putting in Random Ingredients
This is a common mistake for amateur juicers. They smash and blend a wide range of vegetables into their juicer and ask an innocent question: why the taste of final product is so awful? Later on, after the failure, they heap on more organic products like apples, pears and other sweet stuff. It worsen the taste. Some people add bananas to their juice. Results are a complete failure.
It should be kept in mind that neither too many ingredients can make something outstanding nor every fruit can be used to make juice. You cannot juice a banana no matter how much you try. Secondly, adding sugar in juice can spoil its nutrition. As a rule, please abstain from devouring excessive sugar. The general objective with juicing is to redo your nourishment and not to spoil it’s effectiveness. The standard diet consumed on daily basis already contains too many empty calories; so you shouldn’t prefer adding more by the usage of sugar in your juices.
5. Not Drinking Immediately Afterwards
To get the maximum amount of nutrition from crisp create, you need to drink it instantly thereafter. When you let it sit and make it open to the encompassing air proteins, phytochemicals and other germs, the juice gets oxidized and debase. This lessens the amount of nutrients that were meant to be obtained. Nutrition experts advise to drink the juice within 15 minutes after you have extracted it. Fresh juice lasts maximum 24-48 hours in the refrigerator. Similarly kale juice will last maximum 72 hours when provided the best storage capacity.
6. Thinking Juice is a Replacement for Solid Food
People may think that juicing can provide complete nutritions. However, juicing cannot be a replacement for solid food for longer periods of time. It is alright to have juices for several days. You can’t depend on juices for a really long time by skipping meals and putting your body into starvation mode as you won’t lose any fat. This is imperative. You have to set up goals for yourself and you have to control what you eat. As per thumb rule, diet success depends on 80% or more on what you eat and just 20% on exercise.
7. Not Using Fresh Produce
The nutrition extracted from a juice is maximum when the veggies and fruits used are fresh and organic. The fresher, the better, as the nutritionists, state. The most ideal situation is growing your own vegetables and natural products at home, but that may not be possible for everyone. Fresh product has higher moisture content as compared to those that are pressed and transported to a supermarket.
Frozen fruits can also be used for making juice and sometimes can provide more nutrition as compared to fresh fruits. The reason behind this is the locking of the nutritions due the high-quality process used for freezing the veggies and fruits. This process starts within the few hours of its harvest and due to freshness of it, nutrition value is added into it. Frozen fruits are perfect for smoothies. They add thickness and ice with the benefit of antioxidants, vitamins and other phytonutrients
- Choose vegetables and organic products free of sauces or added Substances.
- Look for the product which is not in single chunk rather it should be in pieces.
- Check expiration dates on the package.
8. Wrong selection of Omega Juicers
Pros and Cons of Omega juicers are discussed below:
- Very high juice yield
- Inexpensive
- Very easy to clean
- Long lasting and durable
- Juice will come out slower
- Occasional Clogging
9. Not turning the organic mass in the juicer
Juicing blogs can provide numerous information but some mistakes are not highlighted by them. Some of these mistakes are not discussed much in online juicing blogs so they are included here:
– For centrifugal juicers: In the process of making juice, it may happen that a single ingredient e.g. a carrot, which does not have high amount of water content, may gets flung out of the diffusive juicer instead of blending well.
– For masticating juicers:
You need to keep an eye out while juicing high sinewy greens like spinach. It may be possible when putting in a cluster, may clog the blade of the blender. As a result, it may stop blending. You can overcome this issue by substituting it with another hard vegetable like a carrot or cucumber. Additionally, keep in mind to pre-cut these stringy greens (around a quarter inch long) so it doesn’t get stuck up when it gets pushed out of the mash outlet.
10. Not Juicing At All
Of all the mistakes mentioned above, this is the biggest and apparently most common. A lot of us may be unaware of the fact that fresh juices are excellent for health. Drinking juice is not only beneficial for your health but it also effects the way you look. It makes you look younger and fresher. So different juices from fruits and veggies should be added in your daily diet.

I didn’t know that some fruits and veggies can be harmful to us when taken in high dosages. Thanks for the info.
Excess of everything is bad Rosey.
I like your take on juicing as most posts don’t remind people of what to be mindful of when juicing. It is definitely important to make sure the juicer is carefully cleaned. I give mine an apple cider mixed with water soak before washing it out thoroughly in my dishwasher; Just my preference.
That said, I’m vegetarian so my diet is rich in fruits, veggies and whole grains. I enjoy drinking water and make juices occasionally not every day. Again, my preference.
Thanks for your feedback Elizabeth and for that Tip. Perfectly explained. (y)
