Juicing Ingredients
When trying to improve our health, we focus not only on the benefits of juicing but also the taste. It does no good to make a healthy juice if you hate drinking it. In fact, the best juicing recipes are the ones that are filled with healthy ingredients AND that taste great. While high-sugar fruits and veggies make delicious juices, our goal is to improve our health. With that in mind, take a look at the ingredients below; many of them still have a fair number of natural sugars as well as other benefits that make juices both delicious and healthy.
Healthy Juicing Ingredients:
- Spinach – loaded with iron and protein but low in calories, spinach is one of those ingredients you’ll find yourself wanting to add to everything! While it does have a mild flavor, be careful not to overdo it — that’s when its strong flavor can come out, especially when juicing. If you’re afraid your whole container of spinach will go bad, just throw it in the freezer; it’ll continue to work great when frozen.
- Apples – a staple in the juicing department, fresh apples have a great mix of natural sugars as well as vitamins and minerals. If you need to add a little sweetener to your juice, try a couple of apples. You know what they say: an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
- Carrots – high in antioxidants and Vitamin A, carrots are delicious and store easily. Don’t be afraid anymore to buy those big bulk bags of carrots. Whatever you don’t use in the kitchen you can use in your juicer to make a healthy juice. Their natural sweetness surprisingly works well with most recipes and can add quite a bit of healthy vitamins to your morning.
- Celery – low in calories, but high in health benefits? Sounds like celery. Celery is another classic juicing ingredient because of the natural caloric deficit it creates. But it’s not just the calories: celery gives you a boost of vitamin C, Vitamin K, and folate. This will also add a nice fresh taste to your juices and works well in most recipes.
- Cucumber – if you love the fresh taste of cucumber, this is a must-have in your juicing repertoire. Cucumbers are loaded with antioxidants and vitamins that can help boost your immune system.
- Pineapple – sweet, sweet pineapples. While there may be debate about whether they belong on a pizza or not (we’re all for pineapple on pizza here at Home Kitchenary!), the consensus seems to be that they’re great for juicing. Though pineapples do have a lot of natural sugars, they also provide lots of nutrients while being low in calories. With tons of vitamins and minerals, pineapple can also help you with digestion and even inflammation. Try adding some tropical flavor to your menu!
- Ginger – ginger can be a powerful ingredient both in your juice as well as in your body. If you are struggling with a cold, ginger shots can boost your immune system. If you are feeling bloated and gross, ginger can aid in digestion. And while not everyone agrees, I think the flavor is fantastic when strong. If you need a little boost for your body, don’t forget to add ginger.
- Lemon – great for adding vitamin C to your juice, just one lemon can provide more than half of your needed daily intake as well as provide other nutrients such as citric fiber and potassium.
- Beets – another great ingredient that adds fiber and other key nutrients, beets are the overlooked gem when it comes to juices and smoothies. If you’re looking for a way to add some new flavor and color to your juices, you do not want to miss out on beets. Beets are not only loaded with healthy vitamins and minerals, but they can also help your gut regulate healthy bacteria that needs to be there.

Essential Tips and Tools
When making juices, always remember to treat your machine with care. Even the best juicer will struggle if you shove a giant, raw pineapple into the machine. We always recommend chopping your fruits and veggies into useable 1-inch pieces. This will not only help your juicer get the most of those healthy ingredients, but it will also help you maintain your machine and its longevity. We also know that when it comes to our health and finding a healthy snack, the right tool can make a difference. Nobody wants to mess around with healthy food when trying to deal with a crappy kitchen appliance. Consider some of the best tools below as you try to reach your health goals.
