When the snow melts and the sun comes out, you know it’s time for spring! With a season that literally represents the cycle of new beginnings, why not freshen up your kitchen with some new greenery? It’s officially time to find the best kitchen plants — and the grow lights to go with them.
Are all kitchens fit to host a variety of live plants? Honestly, no; however, with the right equipment and staging (read: grow lights), you’ll be surprised by the number of plants that you can have in your kitchen. I bet you will also be surprised by how big of a difference they make in your kitchen over the long run. No, they are not going to make you a professional chef and no, they will not magically clean the air in the kitchen and prevent stinky foods. They may not be miracle plants, but they will increase a comfortable look in your kitchen and help you feel more clean — and they will certainly clean your air to a certain extent. Take charge of your kitchen this spring by making some room for some awesome plants. Below we have some of the best and most popular kitchen plants and tools that will take your cooking area to the next level.
Grow Lights: Kitchen Tools You Can Trust – Even When It’s Plants!
AeroGarden Harvest
Have you ever bought those live herb plants? Basil? Thyme? Oregano? It’s so easy to grow, they say! There’s no way you can fail, they say! Well in my experience, those plants don’t last long. And as much as I like to claim to be a green thumb, I know the problem lies at my feet. Lack of concern or lack of water aren’t the culprits: for us, it’s a lack of sunlight. My kitchen, frankly, just doesn’t have that many windows nearby. That makes growing herbs, let alone any plant, very difficult. However, with a grow light that suddenly changes.
I really do want to cook with fresh basil picked off the plant, and with the AeroGarden I really can do that. Have you ever wanted fresh herbs that grow seamlessly? This machine makes it super easy. I first came across the AeroGarden at my mother-in-law’s and I fell in love immediately. It really did work. If you are looking for a way to not only spruce up your kitchen with some green but to spruce up your food as well, the AeroGarden is a must. This is a fantastic option if you want a garden and grow lights already set up for you.
Yadoker – Halo Plant Light
When you are looking to focus on one, very healthy plant in your kitchen, it is best to focus on a good pot, good soil, and — most importantly — a good light source. And if your kitchen has limited light like mine does, it means a grow light is the best way to promote that growth. The Yadoker Halo Plant light is small but powerful. It provides your plant with a full spectrum of light, which means it can grow to its full potential. Whether you are trying to beautify your kitchen with good looking plants or grow herbs that you’ll be able to use daily, this plant life is a game changer when it comes to growing kitchen plants (and all plants for that matter!) indoors.
Snapfresh 360° Grow Light for Indoor Plants
For kitchens that have multiple plants in one area and are looking for a stronger indoor light, the Snapfresh 360° grow light is a great option for your plants. With a wavelength ranging from 460nm~622nm, a 85-90 watt option, and an easy-to-program timer, you’ll find that your plants will grow stronger than ever. And for those who are newer to indoor plants, it’s important to consider the wavelength of light your kitchen plants are receiving. When outside, the sun gives them a full spectrum of light, which allows them to grow healthily; indoors, most lights can only fill a portion of that spectrum. However, with this powerful light from Snapfresh, you’ll be able to grow big, healthy plants in your kitchen space.
Lettuce Grow Hydroponic Plant Tower
Have you wanted to become a green thumb? To love plants and work with them? But then you realize they are messy, dirty, have lots of weeds, etc.? Behold, hydroponics!
If you have wanted a simple home garden but still want a nice haul of edible plants, then a hydroponic tower is a must-have item for your kitchen — but it’s such a statement piece (with no light required), that you can actually place it anywhere in your home. With no messy dirt involved, this tower automatically waters your plants while using 95% less water than a traditional system and prevents you from overwatering and killing your plants. It is a true must-have if you are looking for fresh herbs and edibles in your kitchen. Additionally, this tower allows you to grow up to 12 different plants at the same time. This plant tower has only a 2’ x 2’ footprint, which means you can take advantage of the smallest areas while still producing large amounts of product (like having a 40 square foot farm in a vertical garden planter). These hydroponic systems are amazing, but they do come at a cost. The nice thing is that they will last you decades with proper maintenance and use.
One of our friends actually owns this exact product and calls it their “space garden.” It may be a bit futuristic, but the minimal design and maximum output certainly makes it worth it.
Nutrabinns Hydroponic/Aeroponic Tower – For Large Harvests
If you’ve had kitchen plants before but they weren’t enough, then it’s time to step up your game with the Nutrabinns Hydroponic tower. This large tower can sustain up to 48 plants, comes with an option for a light, and can produce large quantities of herbs, edible plants, and greens. If you have a large family or a large green thumb and want to start using fresh greens this is an easy, viable option. And just like mentioned above, this system requires no soil, produces larger yields, and even helps plants grow faster. This system does not use soil but instead uses a nutrient solution to grow plants. Hydroponics irrigate the plants with the solution by submerging the plant roots, while aeroponics spray it directly onto the roots helping them grow faster, get better nourished, and yield better-tasting results. If you want to significantly increase the amount of fresh plants in your kitchen this is a great option to use.
Aspect Luxury Plant Grow Light – Best Looking
If you don’t want large lights taking up your precious counter space or you don’t want purple lights shining through your windows and making your neighbors suspicious of you, consider an attractive, minimalist option: the Aspect Luxury Plant Light. This plant light is small, modern looking, and focused. Used to help 1-3 plants grow with its full spectrum light, this grow light is less noticeable than others. Whether it goes in your kitchen, living room, or one of the bedrooms, this light is easy to place anywhere due its handsome design. So if you want something practical and good looking, take a look at this grow light.
Mosthink LED Plant Grow Light Strips – Most Adaptable
If you are really limited on space or you would like to maximize the space you do have, consider light strips. While not normally as powerful as some of the bigger grow lights on the market, these babies can fight in all sorts of locations: under your cabinet, inside your cabinet, or pretty much anywhere you need them! These grow lights can help your kitchen plants reach a wider spectrum of light, which means healthier (and if you’re eating them, tastier) plants. And because these grow lights are more budget friendly, you can buy more to help give your plants just the right amount of light. If you have thought that there’s no way to grow plants in your kitchen, think again. These plant light strips may just completely change your kitchen — and your kitchen plants.
“I Like Plants, But Not The Work.” Meet grow lights.
There, I said it. I like to pretend that I’m a super gardener and a green thumb… but I struggle. I’ve bought so many herb seeds and even already full-grown plants to try and give my kitchen some fresh taste, but, alas, they would die every time. I got sick of dead plants and pots of dirt occupying my counter space. However, I’ve learned over the years that it’s not my watering practices or weeding or feeding my plants that was the problem; it was my light!
Now my house has been able to finally show some green and give our downstairs some life. Finally I can practice with different plant types and grow herbs for my fresh pasta. If you have had a similar problem as me then consider some of the items above. You may either solve your issue or find out if you really aren’t cut out to keep another living thing alive. Some of us are doomed to that fate, but I believe that with the right tools you’ll be able to make your kitchen a garden in no time.
